The biggest news among the small schools this week was Mayer Lutheran’s 82-56 demolition of Heritage Lutheran. The Knights ran out to a 44-25 halftime lead and coasted home. Maddy Hucky had a career knight—er, night—with 32 points, while fellow senior Mya Chmielewski chipped in 16. Taylie Scott and Annika Simonson almost kept pace for Heritage with 28 and 13 but only 3 of their teammates scored for a total of just 15 more points. Mayer Lutheran got 34 points from girls not named Hucky or Chmielewski for a nice overall team effort.
As a result, Mayer Lutheran vaulted into the top 25 at #19 while Heritage tumbled from #18 all the way out of the top 25.
Also in Class A:
• Then #22 Minneota surprised then #9 Lac Qui Parle Valley 67-61. Minneota moved up 6 slots, while LQPV dropped from #9A to #12A.
• Then #25 Pelican Rapids surprised previous unbeaten and AA Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton, 76-72. Pelican moved from #25A to #20A
In Class AA:
• Then #10AA Stewartville hammered #4A Goodhue 62-41, and moved up to #8AA.
• St. Peter defeated New Ulm and Fairmont to run their winning streak to 6—overall, they’re 11-6—and the Saints move into the top 25 at #25AA.
Otherwise, as I said, it was a fairly quiet week in Lake Woebegone.
