Alize Tripp proved to be one of the top talents. She is a point guard and shooting guard that attends Michigan Center High School. Tripp is in the class of 2020 and plays grassroots basketball for Michigan Premier Blue. I caught up with her to discuss the LBI Summer Sizzler and more.
Question: What do you think has been the key to your success in basketball?
Alize Tripp:
The key to my success in basketball has been my mom. She has helped me become the player I am today. She works on my moves and skills with me to help me become better. She takes me to different trainings and camps to add on top of that. Also outside of that I just spend a lot of time on my own to make myself a better player all around whether it’s in my driveway or the gym.
Question: In what ways do you feel you’ve improved this summer?
Alize Tripp:
I feel I have improved my game this summer with my footwork, attacking the basket, and with my jump shot.
Question: Who’s the toughest player you’ve matched up with?
Alize Tripp:
The toughest player I have matched up against is Bree Salenbien. She’s a great post player who’s also efficient around the perimeter.
Question: You played very well at the LBI Summer Sizzler. What do you think led to your performance?
Alize Tripp:
I played well at the LBI Summer Sizzler because of my confidence and my teammates. They encouraged and cheered for me whether I made or missed a shot. I wasn’t afraid to take it either. I made my defender work hard by closing out tight and making great passes on offense.
Question: What was your favorite basketball moment this travel season?
Alize Tripp:
My favorite basketball moment this travel season was in the championship at the USJN Windy City Classic. We found a way to pull through and win by 2 in OT against West Michigan Drive which is a great team that I have a lot of respect for.
Question: What do you feel is a strength in your game?
Alize Tripp:
I feel my strength in the game of basketball is my court awareness and ball handling. Seeing the floor and finding teammates to make quick and accurate passes while handling the ball with a quick crossover, behind the back, or through the legs move.
Question: What are you most excited about as far as next high school season?
Alize Tripp:
I am most excited about this upcoming school year because I get to play another year with my sister and great teammates to have another chance to make it back to the state finals. I’m also excited to play some great non conference games against Detroit Edison and Flint Carmen-Ainsworth.
Question: How are you preparing for next high school season?
Alize Tripp:
I am preparing for this next high school season by putting in extra work and hours into the gym and in my driveway to help lead to a successful season.
Question: What are your goals next high school season?
Alize Tripp:
My goals this for this upcoming high school season is to play every game with passion win or lose. Going into my junior year I’ve realized this won’t last forever so my main goal is to enjoy every moment and have fun while still getting the job done! On a side note, maybe I can break another record or two.
