She is a shooting guard that will attend Powers Catholic and plays grassroots basketball for the Michigan Mystics . I recently caught up with Vance to talk about her excellent performance at the LBI Summer Sizzler, her improvement as a player, and more.
Question:
What do you think has been key to your success in basketball?
Caroline Vance:
I think that the key to my success in basketball is working out at first class athletics. It helped with my strength and agility which allows me to have an advantage against my opponents. I also run cross country and this has definitely helped me stay in shape.
Question:
In what ways do you feel you’ve improved this summer?
Caroline Vance:
So far this summer I have been able to improve my speed so that I can pressure the ball and cut off the opponent when they try to go down hill. I also improved my shot consistency.
Question:
Who is the toughest player you have matched up with?
Caroline Vance:
I would say the toughest player I have matched up with is Mya Petticord. But don’t get me wrong…I actually love it when my AAU Coach Rob Ruhstorfer challenges me to face guard the top player. I know my team needs me and I am ready for it.
Question:
You played very well at LBI Summer Sizzler. What do you think led to your performance?
Caroline Vance:
The Summer Sizzler is one of the last chances for some of the Michigan Schools to get a look at my team. We want to finish strong so I trained hard for this. I did lots of running and lots of ball handling.
Question:
What was your favorite basketball moment this travel season?
Caroline Vance:
My favorite moment was beating Michigan Crossover to win the MSU Spartan Classic tourney. I ended the tournament with 16 points and we beat Crossover, a really good team. It was fun and it was one of the special times that my team moved the ball well and got each other open looks.
Question:
What do you feel is a strength in your game?
Caroline Vance:
One of strengths is my basketball IQ. I just see the court and know the game. I have an idea of what the player is going to do before they do it which allows me to help my team by communicating to them. I work hard and am always hungry for the win!
Question:
What are you most excited about as far as next high school season?
Caroline Vance:
I am really excited to play for Powers Catholic. A different team and different coach but still the game I love…should be a lot of fun. I’m also interested to see how the speed of the game changes. This will be my first time playing high school basketball so I’m really excited.
Question:
How are you preparing for next high school season?
Caroline Vance:
I am preparing for high school by training and running cross country. I am blessed to get a bit of skill training with some great mentors of mine, Taylor Gleason and Cory Hightower. I listen to every word they say.
Question:
What are your goals this next high school season?
Caroline Vance:
My goals for this high school season is to be the same player I am for AAU on the high school court and make a positive impact on the team.
