Grassroots season has passed, and it’s important to look at some of the teams and programs that experienced success. The Greg Grant u15 team proved to have a talented group of players. They played in the Nike Tournament of Champions in Chicago, the USJN Premier Showcase in Indianapolis, and the LBI Jamboree in Detroit. The Greg Grant u15 team had a runner up finish in the MGBR Classic and won a championship at the TC Big Trophy Tournament.
The Greg Grant U15 squad can best be described as athletic. The roster was packed with good all around athletes that showed versatility and a wide range of skill sets. The Greg Grant 15u team had many players who will compete in multiple sports in the coming school year. Eight of their players were on varsity basketball rosters as freshman. All eight of these athletes will be contributors on their high school team during their sophomore seasons.
TOP PERFORMERS
Maddie Dolenga (Rochester Adams)
Maddie DolengaDolenga is a leader. Her coach calls her the ‘quarterback for the team’. Dolenga is a smart player who minimizes mental mistakes and makes things happen when the ball is in her hands. She has great range on her jumper and can also finish at the rim.
Makayla Fuerst (Waterford Mott)
Makayla FuerstFuerst is athletic and knows how to use that athleticism. She is fast and gets up and down the court quickly and smoothly. Fuerst has a quick first step that she uses to attack the rim. She also has a nice looking jumper from deep.
Emily Grulke (St. John Lutheran)
Emily GrulkeGrulke is the youngest player on the team, but it doesn’t show in her game. She has a mature game with a skill set beyond her years. Grulke is a 5’10” forward who is a matchup nightmare for opposing coaches. She is excellent defending the paint. Grulke has a huge upside as a prospect.
Mikaila Proctor (Waterford Mott)
Mikaila ProctorProctor is a high level post player. At 6’0”, she is a force in the paint. Her footwork has improved greatly, making her a tough matchup. Proctor is great on the offensive and defensive boards. She led the team in rebounds.
Olivia Kubik (Utica Ford)
Olivia KubikKubik is a great shooter. She has range and shoots with consistency from everywhere. Kubik led the team in scoring, putting up over 12ppg over the grassroots season. She is also a solid player defensively.
