Michigan Girls Basketball Dual Sport Stars
As the school year approaches, fall sports season is about to hit full gear. When talking about girls high school basketball, it’s inportant to remember that many of the players also paricipate in and star in other sports.
Here is a look at a few basketball players who diversify their athleticism by taking part in multiple sports:
Emily Eckhout Emily Eckhout PG Stoney Creek | 2019 State MI (2019, G, Stoney Creek High School)
As a basketball player, Eckhout is a shooter at heart. She’s a hustle player who competes hard and isn’t afraid to hit the floor. Eckhout has great court vision and finds open teammates.
This fall, Eckhout will be running cross country. She’s excited to get in shape, bond with her teammates, meet new people, and to be outside running.
“I love to play multiple sports because I love to try new things and always stay active. I learn how to balance school and sports. I love meeting new people and staying active in my school. Sports are a major part of who I am and I love to do anything to stay active/social. Amanda Roach Amanda Roach CG Hartland | 2022 State MI (2022, PG, Hartland)
Roach is dangerous with the basketball in her hands. She has good handles which she uses create space. Roach has a solid mid range jumper and can create her own look. She’s dependable when getting the ball up the court against pressure.
This fall, Roach is playing forward on the soccer team. She uses her quick feet and body control to excel in both sports.
“In soccer, we do a lot of footwork with the soccer ball, so it helps with my footwork in basketball. It also helps me be ready and conditioned for basketball season too.”

Shac Smith (2019, SF, Belleville)
Smith is a star on the basketball court. She’s a physical athlete who’s tough in the paint. Smith is an energy player and communicates with teammates on the floor.
This spring, Smith will be throwing discus on the Belleville track team. She looks forward to competing and setting a new personal record.
“Playing two sports has helped me maintain staying in shape and being a part of the school. I love meeting new people and adding track helped me do that. When basketball season is over, track starts right up so there is really no days off.” – Shac Smith
Jacie King Jacie King SG Kingsley | 2019 State MI (2019, G, Kingsley High School)
King is a skilled guard at Kingsley. She’s a crisp and efficient passer and a shooting threat that opponents have to be aware of on every possession. King is hard worker who looks to be coached.
This fall, King will be a weak side hitter on the Kingsley volleyball team. She looks forward to being a part of a really good team and trying to make a run in the post season.
