Continue ReadingWith the release of our latest 2021 rankings, the future and quality of talent across the state for this class looks to be in good hands. A number of players shot up our list from the previous edition as they have made their mark on their teams this season. We have seen some excellent performances from some of the top ranked players in this class already this season, and we can’t wait to see what this bunch has in store for us down the road and for years to come.
Below is a break down of our latest ranking update to the 2021 classes. As always, Prep Girls Illinois will continue to track and follow the state’s top talent and stay up to date on players who deserve and earn a boost up the rankings as they continue to take shape. Stay tuned
Talent At The Top
The 2021 class is loaded at the top portion of our latest rankings with players who have an assortment of tools in their respective games. Starting with our #1 ranked player, Greta Kampschroeder (Naperville North), who is a player on plenty of observer’s radars across the country. She has put together an excellent sophomore season on both the AAU and High School levels where she showed her impressive skill set that includes her impactful playmaking and a wide range of ways to score. Kampschroeder has the versatility to play all 5 positions on the court but is most effective when the ball starts in her hands .
One can’t speak about the 2021 class in Illinois without mentioning our #2 overall, Sydney Affolter from Marist HS. Sydney has put up some monster number while were in attendance watching this summer as she is basically a walking double-double. Her defense and ability to rebound the ball compliment her scoring in a way that makes her one of the most complete player’s in the Midwest
The Top 40 -The Scorers
The Top 25 of the Class of 2021 has some real scorers embedded in the latest rankings including Rockford Guilford’s Kate Dennis (#7 Long Range Shooter with range well beyond the arc ), Palatine Fremd’s Grace LeBarge (#14 Talented stretch 4 player who is very effective in trailer position and in the pick n roll situaitons) and St.Ignatius Lauren McDonald (#25 Versatile player who can score in the mid-range). But don’t forget, Lexie Sinclair (#31 Bartlett), Anessah Morrow (#36 Simeon) and Kamsi Ngwou (#40 Huntley) as they are all players to keep an eye on as well.
The Strengths of the Class – The Guards
The Class of 2021 has numerous talented players but the overall strength is in it’s guard position. Four players at this position that are already garnering major college attention are Kendall Moriarty (#4 Benet Academy ), Timia Ware (#5 Whitney Young), Tara Gugiluzza (#12 Lincoln Way West) and Elana Wells (#15 Burlington Central) . The sky is the limit for these players as they are all ranked in the Top 20 in their class and continue to progress to become the elite playmakers in the State.
