The talented young ladies below should draw more than their fair share of college interest over the next couple of years. In this article, I wanted to go a bit more in-depth at what the Top-5 point guards in Indiana’s 2021 Class have to offer college programs.
- Ariana Wiggins, 2021, 5-8 PG, Heritage Christian School
I’ve already touched on Ariana a couple of times previously, but right now I think she’s the top point guard in Indiana in this class. Her game is just so much more mature and veteran-like than most of the other girls on this list. She has good strength for her age, length, and athleticism. She is a capable perimeter shooter and a solid scorer going to the basket, but she’s also very unselfish, and when she plays in showcase events she almost overpasses at times. I think she’s a good defender, but I also think she could become elite at that end of the floor.
- Courtney Blakely, 2021, 5-6 PG, Hammond Bishop Noll Institute
Courtney Blakely of Bishop Noll
Courtney is the daughter of former Gary Lew Wallace, University of Iowa, and WNBA player Angela Hamblin. Courtney is strong, very heady, and skilled. She kind of has an old school pace and style of play, and she manages a half-court offense fairly well. She is a good perimeter shooter, a nice passer, and she gets defenders on her hip and uses the free throw line as a weapon. She’s grown about eight inches over the last two years, so the next step for her is to add more explosiveness.
- Hanna Knoll, 2021, 5-6 G, Angola H.S.
Hanna had an outstanding Freshman season for Angola, and she followed that up with a solid grassroots season. She has good speed and quickness, she’s somewhat feisty, and she can do whatever her team needs offensively, whether that’s get to the basket and score, knock down shots from the perimeter, or run the team and create opportunities for others. She plays with a good motor, and she can be a pest defensively as well. I also think she still might grow a couple of inches.
- Audra Emmerson, 2021, 5-5 PG, Fishers H.S.
Audra is somewhat smallish, but she plays with a lot of fight and feistiness. She has really good length for her size, she has good quickness, and she’s well-balanced skillfully. As she begins to add strength, I expect her perimeter shot to be more consistent and for her to be able to get through the lane and finish better versus contact. That jump from Freshman to Sophomore year is so big for smaller players. I really like her toughness and her ability to run offense efficiently, but her best days are ahead of her.
- Alexa McKinley, 2021, 5-6 G, Columbus North H.S.
Alexa McKinley of Columbus North
Alexa is a really nice, multidimensional guard with good length, fluidity, and athleticism. I’m not even sure she’s scratched the surface yet with where she can get to. She has solid ball skills, she can run offense, and she can find open teammates. She also glides through defenses and can get to the rim and finish. He perimeter jumper is good, but that could potentially be lethal a year from now. I also like the fact that she can defend multiple types of guards effectively.
