Continue ReadingThe small forward / wing position group in the Class of 2021 is filled with some really nice, fundamental, and tough-nosed basketball players. There is also a nice mixture of big school and small school kids, and there are prospects who are “recruitable” at most collegiate levels. I again wanted to focus on the Top-5 ladies in this position group and offer a more in-depth analysis of their skill and ability.
- Ryin Ott, 2021, 5-10 W, LaPorte H.S.
I’ve already touched on Ryin a couple of times previously, most notably in the ‘Sister Act’ article. Ryin is still somewhat thin, and as she finishes growing and starts to add strength, I think it will really complement her game and help her get through the lane stronger, finish through contact better, and shoot it with more consistency and distance outside. She already possesses really good length, good athleticism and fluidity, and she handles the ball like a guard. I still consider her more of a point forward though.
- Grace Adams, 2021, 5-11 F, Penn H.S.
Grace Adams of Penn
Grace is a long, fairly fluid and athletic, and still-developing forward. She did play in every Varsity game for Penn a year ago, but she was more of a bench player last season. I anticipate seeing a more enhanced role for her this season. She is probably best suited in the mid-post right now, where she can attack off the dribble or knock down the 15-footer. But she’s a capable perimeter player, and she can post smaller defenders a little. She has a good motor and does whatever it takes to help her team win.
- Lilliann Frasure, 2021, 5-9 W, North Judson-San Pierre H.S.
Lilliann is a stat-sheet-stuffer for her Class 2A North Judson team. She averaged 21.6 points, 9.0 rebounds, 5.4 assists, and 4.3 steals, helping lead the Blue Jays to the Regional. She plays with about as good of a motor as anyone in this class, and she is a tough kid. She doesn’t mind physicality, but she’s also versatile skillfully. She can handle the ball some, she’s a nice one-directional driver to the basket, but she can also knock down the open perimeter jumper when she’s in rhythm. She has a mature game for her age.
- Tally Seitz, 2021, 5-8 W, Carmel H.S.
Tally Seitz of Carmel
Tally is another really nice basketball player who people aren’t quite as familiar with statewide, because she’s on a deep and talented Carmel roster. She has a fairly strong frame, she’s a very good perimeter shooter, and she can handle the ball on occasion and run half-court offense. She’ll have games where she scores at ease and pours in 20+ points, but she also picks her spots and doesn’t force offense, almost overpassing on occasion. I do look for her to be a much bigger factor for the Greyhounds this year.
- Vanessa Shafford, 2021, 5-9 W, Linton-Stockton H.S.
I’ll admit, Vanessa was a kid I wasn’t sure about when I saw her a year ago. But throughout the spring and summer her game really grew on me, and I think she’s now one of my favorite players to watch in this 2021 class. She just has such a natural feel for the game, she can shoot it outside, she handles it like a point forward, and she’s strong, tough, and gritty. But all-in-all, it’s her overall awareness of what’s going on around her, her ability to find teammates and make them better, and her efficiency that stands out most.
