Continue ReadingBlue Earth Area High School finished last season with a modest record of 12-11. But the Buccaneers finished the year strong, winning 5 of their last 6 regular season games, and advancing to the section 2AA semi-finals. Much of the team’s success was due to 2019 wing Caitlin Rorman.
Rorman stands at 5’11” and boasts a 6’2″ wingspan. She is a top 50 player in the class of 2019, and takes pride in being able to play multiple positions. Rorman explained that, “I can, and have, played all positions 1-5, depending on what my coaches want, as well as the match ups…I think (those experiences have) helped me to be a smarter all-around player.”
After finishing up the high school season, Rorman teamed up with fellow Big South East Conference players Joey Batt (New Ulm), Jacey Welp (St. Peter), Taylor Crissinger (Fairmont), and Madison Gehloff (Waseca) on a highly successful MN Rise Wolfe AAU squad. “Out of my five seasons with MN Rise this was one of my favorite,” Rorman said of her summer. “From the friendships I made to all the new experiences we shared, this was such an incredible team with amazing talent and we played really well together.”
Caitlin Rorman is the 4th leading scorer in Blue Earth Area High School history heading into her senior year.MN Rise coach Dan Wolfe was recently named the Prep Girls Hoops Minnesota AAU Coach of the Year. When speaking about her experience playing for Wolfe, Rorman said, “We’ve been fortunate to have a college level coach these past two years. Coach Wolfe was able to make it fun while challenging us to get better individually and as a team.”
Rorman was Blue Earth’s leading scorer last season, averaging nearly 21 points per game. And she has even loftier targets in mind for her final high school season. “My goal for my senior season is to reach 2,000 points,” the Buccaneer standout said. “I’m currently at 1,396 and I scored almost 600 points last year. I believe it will be possible with hard work.”
When asked about her upcoming senior season, Rorman gave an answer that any coach would love. “My goal with each game is to play my best and make it fun for all the people that come out to watch us and are so supportive. I also want to be a strong leader and set a good example on and off the court, and hopefully help my teammates reach their full potential too.”
Caitlin said that she definitely plans to continue playing basketball at the college level. “I just recently started visiting schools this summer that are at the DII and DIII levels…I am planning to visit more colleges this fall and winter, which will include some overnight visits.” She is hoping to make her college decision by the end of the high school basketball season.
