The question struck me as pretty random at the time: “Whatever happened to Brynn Schwanz?” my friend wanted to know. “I always thought she was a pretty nice player.” Me, too. A mainstay on the powerful Fury 2020 Blue team, Schwanz suffered a major knee injury in 2016 that basically wiped out her freshman year of high school. Last winter she was well down the depth chart at Eastview, and this spring she was gone from the Fury roster. Well we are pleased to report that Brynn resurfaced with Southern Minnesota Fury 2019 and is now back in the top 75 of the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2020 Player Rankings released Tuesday. She’s also poised for a very big year at Eastview.

Like many talented prospects who play in powerhouse programs, the 6-foot forward has had to wait her turn to get into the varsity rotation for the Lightning. Last year she was behind two outstanding seniors in Megan Walstad (Milwaukee) and Andrea Abrams, who had excellent seasons as Eastview captured the state 4A championship. Of course, Schwanz went up against Walstad and Abrams every day in practice and is much improved as a result.
