Head Coach: Tyrone Hicks
Last Season: 8-14
”Finished about where I thought we would end up. Made it to the District Final with a tough loss to Dexter. Lost 2 league games we didn’t see coming, but other than that played a tough schedule with quality opponents.”
– Coach Hicks
Overall Team Outlook
Expectations: Pioneer is talented and they know it. They have the talent to compete for a conference championship, district championship, and beyond. They have veteran talent on the perimeter and in the paint. Pioneer boasts one of the top freshman classes in the state, featuring up to 6 players with next level potential. They will be a must-see team for fans and college coaches.
”Expectations for this team are high this year.”
– Coach Hicks
Areas Of Concern: ”Areas of concern are guard play and the ability of younger guard cores to handle the pressure.” -Coach Hicks
Best Case Scenario: “Sky is the limit. League, District, Region…..from there, anyone’s ball game.” – Coach Hicks
Key Returners:
Asaria Turmon (2019, Center)
Coring Burgard (2019, Forward)
Whitney Gallagher (2019, Guard)
Felicia Stewart (2021, Guard)
Key Newcomers:
Ashanti Turmon (2020)
“Solid group of 6 freshmen who all have the ‘potential’ to play varsity ball. Tryouts will be exciting this year.” – Coach Hicks
The Ann Arbor Pioneer squad will be led by Asaria Turmon. She will surpass the 1000 point mark in her senior season (currently has about 900). Turmon is one of the top post prospects in Michigan. She is physically stronger and more polished of a player than most at her position. There may not be a better leader and team player in the state as well. Asaria Turmon is the type of player that every coach wants on their team.
