What do you need? A floor general, a shooter and a lockdown defender. We break down some of the toughest backcourts around, regardless of class.
Rio FIllipi & Riley Peters
Lennox Orioles (Class A) has some really crafty guards. Rio Fillipi and Riley Peters are both underrated. Rio has that change of speed type of game. One second she’s going this way then BAM she’s gone past you the opposite way. Peters is the glue or tape or whatever you use to keep things together. Always steady and ready to lead.
Trojan power for West Central’s (Class A) Rylee Haldeman and Megan Madsen. Just a freshman, Haldeman will run point for the Trojans. She’s already got some varsity experience from last year. Now she will be the primary floor general. Madsen is coming off knee surgery, but the All-State soccer player will help groom the young Haldeman.
Maddie DeJong
Two All-State members, Danica Kocer and Trinity Law of Brandon Valley (Class AA), might be the best backcourt in the state. They are like peanut butter and jelly, cereal and milk like…..well like Danny and Trin! These two have been playing together since forth grade. Trinity is the Westbrook of the two. She gets downhill, stops on a dime and pulls up on you. Looking for a 3? Well Danica got cha! She seems to always finds the arch. And you’ll never see it coming. Speed, power, quickness and court vision defines these two.
You ever watch an old mythological dragon slayer movie with a 3 headed monster? No? Well Lincoln (Class AA) will gladly show you theirs. Mya Wilson, Emma Osmundson and Brooke Brown are three of the toughest players around. Mya is a defensive maniac that causes fits for the opposing offense. She never lets you get settled or comfortable. Emma is a guard that plays bigger and stronger than she looks. She scores in ways that doesn’t necessarily WOW you, but in the blink of an eye she might have 20 points! Missing all of last year, Brooke is ready to get back to her old ways. She’s capable of dropping 30 on you, she did, in her freshmen year. So look out for this three headed monster, or rather this trio of girls!
Lexi Unruh in the white home jersey for the SFC ChargersAge ain’t nothing but a number when it comes to Lexi Unruh and Maddie DeJong of Sioux Falls Christian (Class A). These two have already made statements. They are unquestionable the leaders of the team. Maddie is a strong solid player. She has good size and plays at a steady pace. Lexi is the number #1 player in the 2021 class. She uses her long frame to get through and around defenders. She can pull up, attack the rim and knock down the three. These two are a force to be reckoned with.
