“Sun is down, freezing cold, that’s how we already know winters here!.” Those are the lyrics to Sicko Mode by Travis Scott featuring Drake. “That Travis Scott album is fire!” Ware exclaimed. I would agree, “Yes it is!” Lauren is like most teenage hoopers. She likes to hang out with friends and listen to Drake to get her hyped before a game.
Prep Girls Hoops: “So, how did last school year turn out?”
Ware: “Well it was crazy. We weren’t expected to win state. We have a good rivalry with Stanley, who won state before and we beat them this year.”
Prep Girls Hoops: “That had to be exciting winning State only being a sophomore!”
Lauren Ware #32 of Century BismarckWare is an outgoing person. She smiles a lot and has that bubbly personality. But when the ball tips she turns into a 25 points, 18 rebounds, 4 blocks type of monster. Its like Jack Jack from Incredibles, so nice, sweet and cute. Then fires coming out his face and he blows up the neighborhood. Well, Ware blows up competition. The 6’4 forward has that next level talent. I’ve seen her in action at Nike Nationals in Chicago going up against some of the best competition in the county. And she held it down!
Ware: “The summer AAU season was great. We played some Nike EYBL teams in Minneapolis and Chicago. It was a new experience. We won some and lost some, but we got better throughout the summer.”
Lauren matched up well with everyone she played against this summer. No wonder colleges from the Power 5 conferences are contacting her.
Ware: “I’ve been talking to the University of Florida, Arizona, Arizona State, Nebraska and Minnesota. I believe I am going to visit the University of Minnesota pretty soon, within the next couple weeks.”
This is all new to her. Leading Century Bismarck to a state title is new, playing basketball at a high level is new, being named North Dakota Gatorade Player of the Year is new and now she will be more vocal in leading Century back to state.
Ware: “This year our challenges are going to be different. We lost 3 seniors who were leaders on the team and kept everything in place. We will be a lot younger so myself and the other underclassman will have to step up our roles. Its really a great culture here at Century and the seniors showed us how to be passionate about the game and winning. We know Mandan will be some of the tough games on our schedule so, we have to be ready for everyone.”
Prep Girls Hoops: “Yeah, after winning the chip you get a target on your back and now everyone will want to beat you.”
Ware: “Exactly, that’s why I have been working on things I need to improve on. I want to be able to stretch the floor. Being able to open the lane up by drawing my defenders out to the perimeter. So, a lot of ball handling and shooting has been going down in my workouts. Hahahahaha!”
On top of studying hard, listening to Travis Scott and Drake, staying game ready, Lauren is taking calls from coaches across the country. If she continues to expand her game, being more versatile and able to play both inside and out, the sky is the limit. More recruitment pitches will surely come her way. They just better make sure they have noodles on campus. Any type! “I tried to show em”
