A few months back it looked as though the fight for supremacy in the Tri-Metro West this winter would be business as usual as the two private powers – DeLaSalle and Academy of Holy Angels – engage in their annual duel. That will still be the case, but the faces and names have changed significantly. Thanks to an exodus of leading ladies from the Stars, and the influx of five highly regarded freshmen to the Islanders, the complexion of this rivalry is now more difficult to handicap. We’ll give it our best shot.

Academy of Holy Angels

Holy Angels went 5-1 in conference play and split their season series with DeLaSalle. The Stars lost only five games all season, a year that ended with a 15-point defeat by Grand Rapids in the 3A state tournament. You had to figure AHA would be back in fine form this fall with enough weapons on hand to make another run
