A deflection, charge taken, guarding the best player from the opposing team and just sure ball pressure are things that don’t show up on the stat sheet and College Coaches will notice about her game. At 5’9 with a six foot presence she comes with multiple tools in her game. Prep Girls Hoops tracked down Spraggins to find out what drives her.
“I’ve set personal goals for myself this season but mainly wanting to focus on being a solid contributor each night”, “I take pride in playing defense as I know it lifts my teammates and sets the tone”. Brooke also gives credit to her Track and Field background as part of her success on the court. “the conditioning, levels of running and endurance that I gain on the track definitely translate to the court”, “When other players are getting tired and fatigue is setting in my track strength carries me those extra minutes.
Falling a few games below .500 last season the Little Cyclones have their eyes set on one target and that’s Wells Fargo come February. Just third on her team a season ago in steals and blocks and is currently leading her team in assist this year. She knows the next steps she needs to take in her game in order to aid in that happening, a trip to the State Tournament. “I want to use my athleticism and quickness to create more offense for myself within the flow and more opportunities for my teammates”. Averaging double figures in scoring along with filling the stat-line as she does already, would be a huge boost for her and her teammates.

She sharpened her skills with the Nike Grassroots EYBL National Champions All Iowa Attack. “Playing AAU has given me the opportunity to face tough competition nationally which has made me a better player, “I learned the fundamentals of being a team player and having good energy at an early stage” Brooke stated.
In regards to her early recruiting outlook, this two sport standout has drawn attention from D2 and D3 schools as well as some mid-majors. “I would like to play basketball and run track at the college level. It doesn’t necessarily matter where, as long as I am comfortable with the campus, team and Coaching Staff”
“If basketball is your passion, work hard at it and the results will come in due time”. Brooke shares with those younger ladies that aspire to be future players. “Don’t take anything for granted as the time and energy only comes around once, so play your hardest”
You can catch Brooke and the Little Cyclones in action as they will host Fort Dodge Tuesday Dec. 4 in Ames.
