On our list of the top players in the 2020 class, one name stands above the rest. 6’1 forward Emma Ronsiek Emma Ronsiek 6'1" | PF O'Gorman | 2020 State SD of Sioux Falls O’Gorman is pegged as the top junior in the state. She’s a player that doesn’t back down and she runs with a high motor. Ronsiek is a girl who is just scratching the surface of her potential and is definitely someone that all Division I programs in the area should be keeping a close eye on. Ronsiek has a few offers from a couple low major programs along with Creighton and Colorado State. When her high school career is over, I see someone with the potential to be a MM+ type of talent.
She has seven offers from D1 programs and her junior campaign hasn’t even started yet. Her “best” offers come from Creighton and South Dakota but more programs come will come calling. Ronsiek has been recruited heavily by area D1 programs, but as she makes some noise this season you will see that interest begin to creep out into more of a regional area.
Ronsiek has taken a few visits thus far in her recruiting process. She went to Green Bay last week and also took an unofficial visit to Wisconsin in the same weekend. She has also visited USD and Creighton, both whom have offered her. Ronsiek says that she has been very impressed by each coaching staff that she meets on her visits. She also mentioned that she really enjoys the fact that the players at each school are close and feel like a close family.
Versatility is something that really sticks out when you watch her play. Due to her height, Ronsiek is a mismatch inside because she gets frequently matched up on guards. She gets great body position and finishes really well through contact at the rim. She told me that she has gotten a lot stronger since her freshman year and you can really see that work pay off for her inside.
Ronsiek is a nightmare to defend because she can also step out and hit a jumper. She runs really well without the ball and knows where to go to be in a good spot to shoot the ball. She is a good catch-and-shoot player coming up off of down screens and is just so tough to defend. Ronsiek is great on defense due to her length and her ability to guard all five positions on the floor. She’s not overly fast but very quick and her decision making is quick. This is someone who is going to be very good on both ends of the floor.
She still has the potential to improve a lot. Ronsiek is currently working on her shooting and the ability to drive from the perimeter. She has the talent of a mid major prospect right now and I would not be surprised if she were to have some high major programs start to show some interest in the next few months and into the summer. Whichever college program she decides to attend is going to be very satisfied with the skillset she provides.
