Isabela Lujan-GonzalesCoach Taylor Kramer sees this as a rebuilding year for Mount Vernon. The Majors having no seniors and two juniors on the roster, came into the building optimistic on what this young team will look like this season. They found out quickly as Thomas Jefferson exploded to a 18-2 late in the first quarter lead. The Majors lone field coming from a floater from freshman Isabela Lujan-Gonzalez. The score ballooned to a quarter ending 30-5 after the Majors only other field goal of the quarter another freshman Susan Cerulli.
Savannah Wilson
Thomas Jefferson shared the ball and almost everyone got into the books in the quarter. Freshman Erin Brodnik led the way score 8 of her game high 23 points in the period while Senior Savannah Wilson (York commit) added 7 of her 12 points in the period for the Colonials. Substitutes filled the floor for the Colonials and the scoring slowed down a bit. The defensive pressure continued and even with most of the starters on the bench, the Majors were scoreless in the quarter trailing 51-5 at intermission.
Mallory Brodnik
After 3 quarters the Colonials led 73-11 as their coach Liz Reed rested her starters for the evening. Senior Mallory Brodnik (Erin’s sister), who’s heading to the University of Chicago had 14 points before calling it a night. If the Majors can take any positives going forward they tied the Colonials 13-13 in the fourth quarter which may give them some momentum going forward as they face Thomas Edison next. The Colonials next game will be Friday against McClean.
