Between the eight teams, there are several really nice basketball prospects, and we’ve decided to split them up into two separate reviews. This specific article, Part-1, will focus on prospects who come from the four schools located in Grant County. Part-2 will focus on prospects from the four schools in Madison and Blackford Counties. We limited it to just a player or two from each school who stood out in yesterday’s action.
Kylie Standfest, 2019, 5-6 W, Eastbrook H.S.
Kylie is a long and fairly athletic wing prospect who plays with a great deal of versatility. She showed the ability to play around the perimeter, knock down the occasional jumper, or slash to the basket. She is a nice pursuing rebounder who attacks the glass fairly well for her size / position. She can also defend multiple positions equally well, and she played with a motor at both ends of the floor. Kylie could develop into a really nice small college wing who can provide depth and flexibility within a lineup.
Azmae Turner of Madison-Grant
Josalyn Martinez, 2019, 5-7 F, Eastbrook H.S.
Josalyn is a wiry strong, tough-nosed, and versatile face-up forward. She knocked down at least three 3-pointers against Alexandria-Monroe, and she did a nice job inside as well. She’s a willing rebounder who will get physical when necessary, plus she did a solid job providing help-side defense. She’s probably a littler undersized for how she plays, but I still think she can be a solid small college prospect because of her ability to knock down open jumpers. She’s also a solid athlete with a good motor.
Azmae Turner, 2022, 5-8 G, Madison-Grant H.S.
We spoke about Azmae earlier this year, and yesterday she played much stronger and more physical, despite her thin frame. She is a solid ball-handler, a somewhat smooth slashing athlete, and she causes a lot of problems defensively with her length. She even had a sequence where she extended enough to block the shot of the 6-5 Caily Bolser (below) from behind. As she gets stronger, I think her confidence attacking the basket and her ability to finish inside will definitely improve. She might also still grow some.
Ally Hewitt, 2019, 5-9 F, Mississinewa H.S.
Ally is a versatile inside-out forward who could definitely benefit a small college because of her ability to hit shots at all levels. She fought through injuries a year ago, but this year she has been healthy and consistent throughout the first half of the season. She has really good length, she’s a nice North / South athlete, and she can do some things skillfully offensively. She can handle it a little in transition, attack the basket straight-line, or knock down the 15-footer consistently. She could stand to get stronger for the next level, though.
Caily Bolser of Mississinewa
Caily Bolser, 2020, 6-5 F/C, Mississinewa H.S.
I came away as impressed with Caily as any time I’ve ever seen her. She looks noticeably stronger and a little taller, but it’s more so the fact that she is playing much stronger and more physical on the interior. When she was younger, she was more of a spot-up shooter from the perimeter. She still maintains a dangerous lefty stroke from outside, but now she’s starting to impose her will on smaller defenders around the paint, and she’s starting to finish through contact much better. She recently gave a verbal commitment to the University of Toledo.
Adrianna Trexler, 2019, 6-0 F, Oak Hill H.S.
Adrianna is another prospect who is playing stronger and more physical, but stylistically she’s a much different player than Bolser (above). Adrianna has great versatility. She is probably best suited as a highly skilled face-up ‘4’, but she can play on the wing, some point forward, or in a pinch she can slide over and play a little post if necessary. She is a threat from behind the arc, she can attack the basket off the bounce, and she’s becoming a much more effective rebounder. She will stay close to home and play ball at Indiana Wesleyan University.
Taylor Westgate, 2020, 6-1 F/C, Oak Hill H.S.
I continue to be impressed by Taylor’s motor and her willingness to constantly rim-run and get physical on every possession. That’s huge for any power player, and she just does it as consistently as anyone I’ve seen around the state. She is a strong kid, she does enjoy the physicality, and she’s incredibly productive around the block. She is a solid athlete and can knock down the 15-footer as well, so I think the versatility is there for her to possibly be more of a true power forward at the next level instead of being just a post player.
