The Edith Sanford Breast Cancer Classic brings an abundance of talent to the Sanford Pentagon. Teams from South Dakota will battle against some of the nations top teams featuring players ranked nationally. This unique set up also features cross conference match ups, cross class match up and cross state match ups. Teams from Iowa, Minnesota and Nebraska make the trip to Sioux Falls. This area has a rich tradition in girls basketball. Games will be played on the main heritage court December 16, 2018 started from 8:00am to 9:30pm. If you’re a basketball junky, this is the place to be this weekend.
Morgan Hansen and Sydnaya Dunn Photo Courtesy Of The Argus LeaderIn the 12:30 slated game we have a great matchup with St. Michael-Albertville, out of the Minneapolis area. The will go up against the Patriots of Sioux Falls Lincoln. Both come into the game with a ton of talent. The Patriots are led by a host of player. Starting with USD commit Morgan Hansen. She is a match up problem with her length. Hanson can score it down low and of course knock it down beyond the arc. Emma Osmundson is one strongest guards in the state. Finishes well through contact and when Hanson can’t get it going, Emma is there to pick up the load. You must be tough when you’re moonlighting as a softball player. What that really means is she’s committed to SDSU for softball. She’ll run the catcher over at home plate and run through contact to finish at the rim. Then you have the defensive anchor in Sydnaya Dunn. Dunn won’t let anything come in the lane. Floater? Nope! Scope? Get that out of here! Pull up? Sike! The previous day match up with Hopkins might influence this game.
Awoti Akoi and Emma Ronseik Photo Courtesy of the Argus LeaderSpeaking of Hopkins, who are ranked nationally and have the class of 2020 #1 Player in the county, Paige Bueckers. They bring their talented team to Sioux Falls to play the O’Gorman Knights. Who rightfully so have their own stud!! Emma Ronsiek holds about 6 division 1 offers with plenty of more to come. The 6’1 junior is solid in all three phases. Long and physical on defense, strong and powerful on offense. She had developed a nice fade away jumper. Mix in Awoti Akoi, who stands at 6’3 and is just a brick wall, then we have a fun and interesting matchup. OG has enough shooters to complement Emma and Awoti. They may need to be in sniper mode this night. Because the uber athletic Hopkins like to speed teams up which can led OG in unfamiliar situations.
We’re going to call this match up “Lord of The Rings!” It features some of South Dakota’s and Nebraska’s most accomplished schools. St. Thomas More will play Crofton out of Nebraska. The two school have combined to win 11 state titles in the last 15 years. STM have won an impressive 5 state titles in a row! If you’re familiar with STM, then you know there’s a Duffy girl on the team. You can say the for Crofton and the Arens family. These two communities have blessed us with some great talent. It will be a matchup for the ages
