She has good size, great quickness with a deceptive speed and calmness about her game that keeps her and her teammates locked in on the Coaches game plan. After leading the Wildcats to a 21-3 record last season and falling to eventual State Champions Springville in the Sub-State Final, Baker-Bruce and her teammates have their eyes looking in one direction, Wells Fargo Arena! Prep Hoops caught up with Briana to get the latest scoop on her and her future plans.
“I definitely want to play Ball in College, I’ve received multiple offers but I’m still currently looking for the best fit for me” I plan to Major in Criminal Justice and I want to attend a college that best prepares me for life after basketball” Baker-Bruce shared with me…
Scoring 12ppg and 5.5 assist along with 4 steals each night, Briana wants to do more. “Individually, I want to be a leader for Janesville, I want to increase my assists to turnover ratio and strengthen the weaker parts of my game, from my off-hand to weak side movement without the ball and seeing the floor”, “I plan to be the most competitive player in the class”, “As a team… winning the Conference is step one for us, securing a top seed heading into the playoffs and reaching our ultimate goal, The State Tournament”.
This 5’7 southpaw definitely put in the work this off-season to get herself in position to accomplish many of her goals in her senior campaign. I witnessed her work first hand as she led her Iowa Eclipse team into the, “Summer Jam” in Minneapolis hosted by North Tartan and “Battle of The Best” in Ames hosted by All Iowa Attack, a couple of the top events in the country. With all the top tier teams, highly rated players and under that big of a spotlight, Baker-Bruce showed she belonged!
“Playing Summer Basketball allowed me to experience tougher competition, it’s a whole different environment”, “and it got me out of my comfort zone playing against some of the top girls in the country and throughout Iowa”.“Would I do it again, absolutely, it made me the player I am today and the bonds I’ve formed with some of my teammates will last a lifetime” Briana shared.

For those younger kids coming up Briana always shares with them… “Watch yourself play, perfect the things you’re good at and push yourself to be better at the things you’re weak at”, “If you’re having a bad game offensively you can always make it up defensively. Believe in yourself and never give up!”
The Janesville Wildcats have jumped out to a 2-0 start and are headed in the right direction. You can catch Baker-Bruce and her teammates in action as they head into Gilbertville to take on Don Bosco Tuesday Dec. 4 or at home hosting Waterloo Christian Friday Dec. 7.
