Sherwood’s team has gotten off to a great start so I wanted to see what the buzz was about. The game started with a 10-0 run by the home team with most of the damage being done by senior guard Astou Seck. The visitors finally settled into a rhythm and led after one quarter, 16-15. They seemed to be in full control of the game with a 35-25 lead at the half, thanks to three players scoring 11 points. Late in the third Springbrook rallied to tie the score at 45 after three quarters. The last quarter was a battle but freshman guard Angela Nnabue was too much for the Blue Devils to handle. Sherwood escaped with a 61-55 win.
Angela Nnabue Lived up to the Hype
The freshman guard was all over the court contributing in many different ways. She ended up with 24 points, scoring all of them on drives to the basket, short jumpers and free throws. I was very impressed with how many ways she impacts the game on both ends of the court. She was definitely worth the trip to Montgomery county.
Chase Bell Is Having A Stellar Rookie Season
Chase has improved her game since last summer. She has a very good long range shot as she knocked down three 3 pointers in the game. Chase looks most comfortable at the shooting guard position but handles the ball well enough to play some point. She has a good feel for the game and contributes on both ends.
Caroline Bidwick Is a Knock Down Shooter
You cannot leave Ms. Bidwick open. The senior guard is a deadly shooter and Springbrook found that out in the first half, as she hit four 3 pointers and helped her team erase an early 10-0 deficit. She ended the night with 15 points.
Astou Seck Can Ball
I have to admit I did not know what to expect from Springbrook when I arrived at their gym. I was pleasantly surprised with senior guard Astou Seck. Ms. Seck is a solidly built shooting guard at 5’6″. She exploded for 27 points and made several big shots to bring her team back, even after Sherwood adjusted their defense to account for her. She hit several 3 pointers and mixed it up inside as well. She could be a diamond in the rough for a program at the next level.
