Game 1 CORL vs Lebanon
- Christ Our Rock Lutheran overcame a bit of a nervous start to take the win 54-47. This was a battle of two good 1A teams. Macie Peltes a sophomore forward for CORL was their player of the game. She had 24 points including 2 3 pointers and a perfect 4/4 from the free throw line. Macie is more than capable of hitting outside shot and that leads to her ability to drive to the basket. Once she hit a couple of 3’s she was able to drive to the hoop as they tried to close out hard to stop the 3. Macie was also tough on the defensive side and is a good all around player.
- For Lebanon the player of the game was Emily Reinneck. Emily is a senior guard that had 25 points to lead the Greyhounds. She is a strong and athletic player that can make the 3, but is best off the dribble into the mid range shot. Once Emily has you off balance she will make good decisions on pulling up or getting all the way to the basket. If the pass is a better option Emily is a capable and willing passer.
Game 2 Triad vs Benton
- Triad withstood a fast start by Benton and used their size and experience to grind out the win. Senior Heather Rood was the player of the game and led her team with 14 points. She hit 3 shots from behind the 3 point line and was 5/6 from the free throw line. Heather lost a good portion of her junior year to a knee injury but is working her way back into a strong senior year.
- Mady Wallace came out ready to play for Benton. She had 9 points in the first quarter as they jumped out to a lead. Unfortunately she could not keep that pace going as Triad adjusted to slow her down some. She made 4/5 shots to start the game but only 1/8 after that. She is left handed, is a good ball handler and can get herself into the lane and finish.
Game 3 Breese Central vs Teutoplois
- Teutopolis has had a strong program going for years now. This is another upper class laden team that is full of capable scorers. Teutopolis pulled away in the second half to make a once close game turn into a 59-41 victory. In this game senior Sadie Bueker led the Wooden Shoes with 13 points. She hit a 3, was 2/2 at the line and did an excellent job finding good shots. Sadie only missed one shot in the game and could have very easily scored even more.
- For the host Breese Central sophomore Chloe Book was the player of the game with 13 points. Chloe was good inside the arc as she made 4/5 shots. She did make 1 shot from behind the arc but struggled a bit as the Lady Cougars tried to get back in the game. Chloe made both of her free throws in route to her 13. She has a nice future in front of her, she plays strong and will certainly be someone to watch as Breese Central reloads.
Game 4 Jerseyville vs Monticello
- Jerseyviille was led by their outstanding sophomore guard Clare Breden. Clare had 21 points including 3 shots from behind the 3 point line in a blow out win, 60-30. She was 5/9 inside the arc and 3/5 behind the arc. Clare is a good ball handler and uses her quickness to get by her defender. She jumps well so despite being 5’5 she can finish at the rim or use the floater she has incorporated into her game. Clare will catch you off guard if you worry about her dribble drive and can pull up a full step behind the 3 point line and not need to change her form, She is certainly a player to watch over the next two years.
- Monticello was led by freshman Renni Fultz with 11 points. Renni is a strong forward for the Sages that looks to have a bright future. She can finish inside and has a high motor that allows her to get her own shots off the boards. Renni goes up strong for a younger player and isn’t intimidated by the older girls at all. She struggled some from the free throw line but that part of her game will improve I am sure. Once her skills catches up with her body and effort she could be a gem for small colleges in the area.
Game 5 Columbia vs Breese Mater Dei
- Columbia finished off a hard fought game with a 16-6 4th quarter to seal a 57-41 win. Senior Sophia Bonaldi had 21 to lead the Lady Eagles. Sophia was 3/3 from behind the 3 point line and 4/4 from the free throw line. She is long and athletic enough to get to the basket or step back and hit the 3. Columbia was able to nurse her through getting her 3rd foul in the second quarter by using her mainly on offense. As she ran back and forth to the bench Sophia hit some big shots to keep Columbia ahead.
- Mater Dei was lead by their senior post Abby Braundmeier with 14 points. Abby is very effective in the screen and roll game. Despite only being 5’8 she can use her strength to get enough room to finish in the paint. Abby was 7/10 from the field to get her 14 points.
Game 6 O’Fallon vs Civic Memorial
- In a tale of two halves O’Fallon used a 14-0 3rd quarter to turn around a 28-20 half time deficit. The Lady Panthers were led by junior point guard Kayla Gordon with 19 points. Kayla is fast, handles the ball very well and can finish in the lane. Kayla made is almost impossible for CM to trap late in the game. She was just too quick with the ball for them to stay in front of her. Kayla was in control and was able to finish in the lane when she got there.
- Civic Memorial will certainly walk away disappointed in this loss. For their player of the game junior Anna Hall it was a tough second half. O’Fallon clearly made a decision at half to ensure someone other than Anna had to beat them. She only had 1 field goal in the second half after hitting 4 two’s and a three in the first half. Her 19 points led the team as she has all year. Anna is extremely tough in the paint and has improved her ability to play facing the basket too. She is certainly someone you will see at the next level.
This was a great event that went off very well in the first year. I cannot wait to return next year.
