Over the years, “The 757” has long been a hotbed of talented prospects, that have gone on to compete in the college ranks. These freshman players are making an impact, as we are reaching the halfway point in conference play.
Let’s take a look at a few freshmen ballers, who will be in the running for their conference “Newcomer of the Year” award. These ladies will make major contributions, helping to push their varsity teams to state playoff runs.
Jada Bryant
Norview High Norfolk, VA | Wing
5-9 | Freshman
Bryant has a nose for the ball, she’s often found mixing it up under the offensive and defensive boards. Bryant finishes at the rim and is developing a consistent mid post and 3 ball. Great Genes – Bryant’s older brother is a freshman baller at Norfolk State University, her mother Helen was a stellar player on the Penn State women’s basketball team.
Cate Carlson
Kempsville High VA Beach, VA | Guard
5-10 | Freshman
Carlson is a solid three-point shooter. Although she is a solid lead-guard with a scorers mentality, she creates opportunities for her teammates by drawing defenders and dishing. Can heat up quickly in transition and in half court possessions
Leasia Foreman
Norview High Norfolk, VA | Guard
5-9 | Freshman
Foreman may be the most versatile freshman in the area. A talented guard, who plays both point and off of the ball, has the ability to create her own shot or find an open teammate. She sees the court well, plays unselfishly and rebounds with the best. Excels going coast to coast.
McKenna Harris
Princess Anne VA Beach, VA | Wing
5-8 | Freshman
You don’t often find freshman who can be described as a “Glue Girl”. Harris is often found on the offensive glass providing additional possessions and put backs. Plays her role well, knocks down jumpers and short corner opportunities when needed.
Jayla Hearp
Hampton High | Guard
5-9 | Freshman
Energy is a good word to describe Hearp. She creates successful looks for herself and has shown the ability to find team mates. Is looked upon delivering for by her team on offensive possessions. Currently averaging 17 points in her freshman campaign.
