The Prospects
Madison Wauters, 6’3 C, 2019 (Winterset)
She was simply taller and stronger than her opponent tonight, and it resulted in a dominant performance for the future Cornell Rams center. She was ultra-efficient, going 8-10 from the floor in this one, and was able to swipe a couple steals through it all.
Avery Fried, 5’11 G/F, 2021 (B-F)
Here’s a very intriguing prospect for the Blue Jays, just a sophomore, Fried is tall and lengthy and showed an ability to score off the bounce. She rebounds it well and certainly has the look of a college prospect. Fried is leading the Blue Jays in scoring this season with 18 points per game. She’s PGHIA’s 15th-ranked 2021.
Bridget Stover, 5’10 G, 2022 (Winterset)
Just a freshman, Stover plays well beyond her years. She showed good vision and patience when waiting for passing lanes to open up, a sweet stroke with her jumper and she communicates exceptionally well for such a young player. Best of all, she rebounds it well from the guard spot, she snared a team-high eight boards in the win.
Corry Pickering, 5’8 PG, 2019 (Winterset)
She’s a catalyst for the Huskies, and keeps things running smooth on the offensive end. She didn’t score much tonight, but she did save her one bucket, a 3-ball, for a clutch fourth-quarter spot. She’s more worried about her teammates being in the right spot and being successful then she is about scoring herself. She’s a leader for this team.
Abby Benshoof, 5’3 G, 2021 (Winterset)
The sophomore isn’t traditional a big-time scorer for the Huskies, but tonight she scored five key points in the third quarter. She’s a confident shooter, and let her 3-ball flt without hesitation. She’s small but fiery and made her impact felt with great effort on both sides of the ball.
Taylor Berggren, 5’7 G, 2020 (B-F)
She canned two 3s in the fourth-quarter, and shot them both without hesitation. They were critical to spurring on the 14-2 run for the Blue Jays in the second half. Her 3-point percentage this season is a little bit down, but you wouldn’t have known it tonight.
Mia Miller, 5’5 G, 2022 (B-F)
When we looked at the roster and saw she was a freshman, it was a surprise. She was fearless and confident out there, especially when attacking the rim. Her ball-handling is good for a freshman, and she does well to keep her head up while handling it. Defensively, she’s active and disruptive.
