It’s almost March and that means the MPSSAA (public schools) will begin their playoffs in a number of days. It also means that the club/AAU season has started on the low with clubs having “workouts” and open gyms to entice prospects into their gyms. Here is a list juniors who are approaching the most important summer of their basketball careers to date.
Chalon Miles, St. Mary’s Ryken, Fairfax Stars
Chalon is a slick 5’5″ point guard that can facilitate and score on all 3 levels. You can check for her on the EYBL circuit with the Stars. I really enjoy watching her play.
Jasmine Valentine, St. Vincent Pallotti, MD Lady Shooting Stars
At just a shade under six feet, Jasmine is a solid power forward with good hands that finishes everything around the basket. She’s an exceptional athlete that likes to run the floor. She played last summer with MD Lady Shooting Stars.
Tiffany Manning, Western Tech, MD Lady Tigers
A solidly built 5’5″ lefty point guard with a tricky handle and range out past the 3 point line. She makes a lot of hustle plays and does not shy away from contact.
Aaliyah Bevans, National Christian Academy
Aaliyah caught my eye with her Dennis Rodman like work in the paint. At 6’2″ she is definitely a presence. She’s still a bit raw but makes up for it with effort. She played last year with Havoc City. I will update her new team as soon as possible.
Mya Henson, City, Fairfax Stars Baltimore
Mya is a slashing, explosive guard with a physical style. She averaged 13.3 points, 8.2 rebounds, 3 steals and 4 assists per game for City this season. She can contribute right away at the next level.
Nycerra Minnis, Parkdale, Elevate Elite
Legit 6’3″ post players are hard to come by. Nycerra’s game has expanded over the last year and she is primed for a big summer. Her length and height are built in problems for anyone trying to drive the lane.
Satori Valentine, Mt. Hebron, MD Blazers
Tori was a stat stuffer during the regular season for Mt. Hebron. She averaged 19.8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals. Tori has an aggressive, attacking style and shoots over 50 percent from the floor.
Francis Glover-Bey, Pikesville
If you need a guard that defends at a high level and will pick up full court Francis could be your girl. She routinely draws the assignment of defending the opponent’s top perimeter threat and does not take any plays off. She is capable of providing minutes at the point guard position and has a decent scoring touch from 15 feet in. I will update her club team when she decides.
Marisa Sanchez Henry, Howard, Power Move
Marisa had a superb regular season. She finished strong and is playing with a lot of confidence heading into the playoffs. She is an excellent ball handler that can finish in the paint with both hands and is also an exceptional on ball defender.
Claire Neff , Maryvale, Philadelphia Belles
Claire is a versatile six footer that averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2.5 assists. She is a vocal leader on the court and has a good feel for the game.
