It is a lot easier to find a little guard with some game than a true post! Bigger players typically develop at slower rates than guards, but college coaches are aware of this. As the girls grow into their bodies, their impact grows exponentially and sooner or later, size wins out in many cases. That being said, there are multiple posts in Washington’s 2022 class that can already impact game with their size and skill. Below are some of the bigs that Washington has to offer in the freshman class.
Bigs to watch:
2022 Camille Jentzsch, 6’4, C, Lake Stevens HS- This freshman is about as good as anyone in the state at altering shots. She has the height and reach to blocks shots, sometimes multiple in the same possession. She is naturally strong and boards the ball well as a positional rebounder. Camille has a solid drop step and an expanding back to the basket game. *Pictured left
2022 Taija Mackey, 5’10, PF, Pasco HS- A truly undersized post player, but she plays with a lot of tenacity, physicality and heart. At 5’10, Taija is a double-double threat and capable of putting up big time rebounding numbers. She has a strong frame that helps her bang inside with taller opponents. She will be a four year impact player for the Pasco Bulldogs.
2022 Cori Wilcox, 6’2, PF, Lake Stevens HS- One of the best rebounding posts in her class. She is very strong and goes for every ball. She can finish inside with either hand and is good for finishing drop off passes in the paint. Her free throw shooting has improved over the course of this season and that is a good thing, as she draws a lot of fouls. Cori has already received Division 1 interest. *Pictured right
2022 Lauren Glazier, 6’3, C/PF, Mt. Si HS- One of the higher ceilings in the freshman class. She has the length and mobility that college coaches look for in a prospect. She is a shot blocking presence and has solid timing. Lauren has a thin frame, but long limbs and she will get stronger. She will continue to progress year by year and be a Division 1 prospect when it’s all said and done.
2022 Elise Hani, 6’3, C, Lake Washington HS- Elise has been an instant impact at the varsity level thanks to her length and rebounding ability. She is averaging over 2 blocks per game and leads the team in rebounding. While she does not do a lot of scoring at this stage of her career, the potential is there and I suspect she will continue to grow in that facet of her game each year.
