Some teams had to play two games in one day and some league playoff games were cancelled, but we made it through districts and regionals are finally here. We are one step closer to the state tournament. This is what the coaches, fans, players and parents have been waiting for since November. Prep Girls Hoops will be providing full coverage at next week’s 3A/4A state tournament, but in the meantime, here are some of the top regional matchups to tune into.
4A-
1) Eastlake vs. Woodinville at Issaquah HS, 2/22, 8:00pm
2020 6’3 P Keeli Burton (ASU Commit) and 2021 6’1 SG Haley Huad are two to watch for Eastlake. 2019 5’7 PG Madison Dubois (Seattle U signee) and 2021 5’10 C Mia Hughes are two to keep an eye on for Woodinville. These two have been in some great battles with one another in league play. They have split wins coming into this anticipated regional matchup.
2) Glacier Peak vs. Central Valley at University HS, 2/23, 2:00pm
Glacier Peak plays an uptempo, aggressive style of basketball and it will be interesting to see how they matchup with Central Valley’s half court attack. 2019 Tomekia Whitman (Central Valley HS/Idaho State signee) is a player to watch in this game. She has been the consistent scoring and rebounding threat for CV all year long.
3A-
1) Mt. Spokane vs. Bethel at University HS, 2/22, 8:00pm
Bethel is coming off of a 15 point win over the state’s top ranked team in Prairie. Can they keep the momentum rolling and knock off the state’s number two 3A team? 2021 5’4 PG Esmerelsa Morales and 2020 5’8 G Tiarra Brown are two to watch for the Bethel Braves. Mt. Spokane has a balanced scoring attack led by 2019 5’8 G Aspyn Adams (LMU signee).
2) Penninsula vs. Kamiakin at Richland HS, 2/23, 6:00pm
The 4 and 5 matchup in regionals is very interesting. Kamiakin features 2019 6’0 F Oumou Toure (Butler signee), while Penninsula has 2019 6’0 G Belle Frazier (Portland State signee). Penninsula is a strong outside shooting team and Kamiakin’s Toure is a load inside.
