I remember the first time I saw Ella Grove of Alexandria. It was summer ball back in 2016 and it was her athleticism and natural, free-flowing style of play that caught my eye. Like so many young players we see for the first time I slipped Ella’s name into our database and made a mental note, filing her in my ‘Check back later’ category. Three years have passed and we are pleased to report that later is now, and Grove is having a break-out season with the Cardinal. That’s why she has risen 51 places in the Prep Girls Hoops Class of 2020 rankings, a bigger jump than any other junior in Minnesota.

Last June we wrote that Ella was an athletic 5’7 guard who attacked the rim, made a lot of threes and had evolved into a nice defender. “Ella is an all-around player,” said her West Central United coach Macy Hatlestad at the time. “Obviously as a sophomore she has a lot of room to improve, too.” Fast forward to the fall
