Ames struggled to get shots to fall and the height of the visitors made it tough on them throughout the entire game. There were quite a few interesting players in this one, I detail the top seven below.
Ankeny Centennial
Rachel Schon – 6’1 F – 2019
**8 points**
Schon is a pretty mobile forward without a ton of athleticism but she can still score it inside. She’s imposing on the inside due to her height and ability to pass the ball out of the post. Really think that she played solidly in this one but tat wasn’t reflected into the scorebook. Little bit of foul trouble pulled her out of the game at key times.
Kenna Sauer – 6′ PF – 2019
**17 points, 11 rebounds**
Really liked the game of Sauer. A girl you can stick down low and tell her to go get buckets. She has a really nice turnaround jumper from 7′ to 10′ and she plays physically. She has a really good nose for the ball and is versatile enough to play out on the wing. Sauer is just on of those girls who is a nightmare for opposing teams because of how hard she plays. Committed to University of Missouri (Volleyball)
Taylor Runchey – 5’8 G – 2020
**8 points, 2 assists**
Runchey was pretty solid in this one and she shot it pretty well. Runchey is a player who is so long but handles it really well so she can play a few different spots on the floor. She’s very vocal when on the floor and seems to run the offense pretty well. Really like how she shoots the ball and that is very sustainable with her shot release. I think that she’ll really shine next year as Ankeny Centennial seems to probably look for more scoring from guards.
Ames
Brooke Spraggins – 5’9 W – 2021
**6 points**
Spraggins is a really solid wing for Ames who can shoot it. She plays on the ball a little bit more than I think she will at the next level right now but her handling is good enough I think she handles it pretty well. Spraggins is a solidly built wing who has good vision with the ball and has the ability to score the ball at a pretty solid rate. She isn’t shy about firing off shots and she didn’t take any bad ones in this one.
Caroline Waite – 5’4 PG – 2021
**14 points, 4 assists**
Waite is an ultra aggressive guard who doesn’t shy away from the grit of the game. An ultra competitor, you can really see how dominant she can be. She looks for her shot, but passes the ball really well to get teammates good looks at the basket. She has a really good shot from behind the line. Despite her size she scores inside pretty well too. Vocal leader on the court. Lots of potential with her game right now.
Teagan Lipsey – 5’9 W – 2020
**8 points, 7 rebounds**
Lipsey is a strong wing who never stops competing. I really like the aggressiveness that she went for the boards in this one and if she does that consistently, her game could take off. I thought that she took the ball to the basket really well, just had trouble finishing at times during the game. A very athletic wing who should keep getting better.
Ashley Iiams – 6’1 PF – 2021
**8 points**
Iiams was mostly a non-factor but showed flashes of potential. Didn’t rebound the ball that well in this one but I do think the ability it there. Fairly skilled and can hit that baseline jumper which is a really good trait to have if you’re a post inside. Not as athletic as I think she can be but she is going to keep getting better for Ames.
