Defense is the collective strength of Region 7 as just one of teams in the region allowed more than 50.1 points per game. None of the remaining four teams gives up more than 42.4.
Here’s what you need to know about Region 7
Favorite: Hettinger/Scranton
The Night Hawks have been terrific all season, going 20-1 in the regular season before blowing out Mott-Regent in the first round of the Region 7 tournament. Defense is their strength as they allow just 38 points per game but they’ve also proven to be the only team in the region really capable of also putting up a high volume of points. Hettinger/Scranton averages 63 points per game and figures to be the heavy favorite to emerge and represent Region 7 in the state tournament.
Next Up: Bowman County
The Bulldogs play to their name on the defensive end of the floor, allowing just 36 points per game. With just two losses to North Dakota competition, Bowman County has had an enjoyable season to this point and faces Dickinson Trinity in the second round of the regional tournament. The Bulldogs beat the Titans 39-27 two weeks ago. The only two losses to NoDak competition for Bowman County boht came at the hands of Hettinger/Scranton.
In the Mix: Dickinson Trinity, New England
Dickinson Trinity went 14-7 in the regular season thanks to staunch defense. The Titans earned several solid wins during the regular season and don’t have a bad loss. They beat Heart River and will face Bowman County in the regional semifinals.
New England upset Glen Ullin/Hebron in the first round of the regional tournament, blowing out the Bearcats, 49-26. The Tigers play great defense but struggle to consistently generate points. So it’ll be interesting to see how they handle the tough defense of Hettinger/Scranton.
