Here’s what you need to know about Region 8
Favorite: Trenton
The Tigers are on of two undefeated teams in Class B North Dakota, averaging better than 60 points per game and while they haven’t been tested a ton during the regular season, they did earn several solid wins while being crazy dominant in a big chunk of others. Trenton won 18 games by more than 10 points.
Next Up: Kenmare
The Honkers earned the No. 2 seed in the region tournament thanks to a district title run that saw them beat Stanley, Divide County and Ray. Kenmare lost to Trenton by 15 in the regular season but is riding a nine-game winning streak now. They’ll face Parshall in the semifinal game in a rematch in which they won by nine earlier in the year.
In the Mix: Parshall, Stanley
Parshall lost to Trenton by seven in the district final game and blew out Divide County in the first game of the Region 8 Tournament. Parshall’s defense is among the best in the state and while the Braves’ offense has been up-and-down, they’ve got the talent to make an extended run.
Stanley hung around .500 most of the season and gave Trenton one of the few good games the Tigers had all season. But the Blue Jays struggle offensively at times and that, to this point, seems to be their biggest weakness. Defensively, it’s a really good team that can keep things close against even elite-level competition though.
