Continue ReadingAfter suffering a beatdown at home against Oxon Hill, Largo waited eagerly for the rematch. Many teams are facing rematches in their home and home series as the playoffs draw near and several PG County Public School teams have a legitimate shot at a Maryland State Championship. Oxon Hill and Largo are two of those teams that are eying that game.
The first quarter was pretty tight as in the first match with the Clippers leading 18-13. That, however, would be the closest that Largo would come as the lead continued to expand each quarter. The Clippers used a 3/4 court pressure defense that gave Largo all types of problems. By halftime the Lions trailed 35-19 and had three players in double figures. The as the game began to get out of hand, near tragedy struck as scoring leader Iyanna Warren went to the floor with a leg injury. The game continued as the trainers tended to her and the coaches held their collective breaths. The Oxon Hill finished off the game with a 50 point win and Warren who finished with 17 points didn’t return. I need to not that as time passed on the sidelines she appeared to be more of a cramp than something serious. The Clippers will need her healthy for their playoff run.
Five Key Things That We Learned:
1) After putting up 49 points in the loss to Gwynn Park the Clippers showed that they are more than a one girl show. Iyanna Warren can score from anywhere but she trusts her teammates. She scored 17 points but had close to 10 assists as well.

2) Mossi Staples can fill the gap Staples finished with a game high 18 points and scored 10 of her points in the fourth quarter after Warren left the game. The two feed off of each other but she showed that she will be able to carry the load if needed.

3) The Clippers future is Aniya Wilson. Wilson had 12 of her 14 points in the second half with many of those baskets being of the high level variety. She has great athleticism and skill and can totally take over a game when she’s focused. With both Warren and Staples graduating, the junior will being running the show next season with a possible all met run.
Aniya Wilson4) Senior Billie Johnson has a strong upside. Johnson got stronger as the game when on and never gave up despite the game being out of hand. She has been consistent all season and led the Lions as the only player to reach double figures.
5) The Lions will need to figure out how to free up Vanessa Schwaremann. Schwarzmann is a three point specialist and knocked down a deep one in the first quarter. The Clippers keyed in on it and harassed her all game. Late in the season with teams scouting, she will not get the wide open looks that she wants without some help. Coach Ball will need to figure out some type of screen rotation to free her up or her long range threat will be nullified.
