State Tournament Day 2: Top Performers
At the end of each day we will be putting forth our top 10 performers from the day’s action. You can see the top performers from the seven games on Tuesday below.
Ryley Goebel – 5’11 W – 2022 – Center Point-Urbana
**19 points, 6 rebounds**
Goebel was able to really impact the game off of the bench. She is a really lengthy freshman who did wonders for CPU at the top of their 1-2-2 press. She is able to read her man really well and tip away passes. Goebel also scored underneath the rim really well and was 9-of-11 from the floor. Very skilled and will be really solid once she adds some muscle. Will be a prospect to watch over the next four years.
Kayba Laube – 5’9 G – 2020 – Marion
**25 points**
Laube is a competitor. She’s tough and gritty and won’t back down from anyone no matter what. Really loved that she attacked the basket tough but then would also step out and hit the jumper. Shot the ball really well from deep today going 5-of-8 from behind the arc. Such a solid all around player who does a lot of things really well. Plays with an edge. Committed to Northern Iowa.
Riley Wright – 5’10 G – 2020 – Marion
**15 points, 7 rebounds**
Wright is a tall lead guard who played really well early in the game. She is a lengthy player who has the ability to finish at the rim through contact. Solid court vision and always seems to make the right plays with the ball. Great frame with the ability to impact the game on both ends of the floor. I really think that she has a high ceiling because of the intangibles that she possess.
Megan Meyer – 5’9 G – 2019 – Mason City
**21 points**
While Meyer wasn’t totally efficient on the floor, she played really well for Mason City. She created well for her teammates and found the open players in the corners off of the drive. Loved her competitiveness throughout the game. She stayed poise today in the face of being the opposing student section’s favorite players on the floor. Really liked her aggressiveness with the ball. Committed to Iowa.
Presley Case – 5’5 PG – 2020 – North Scott
**8 points, 7 rebounds**
Really liked the way that Case played today. She has a great basketball IQ and passes the ball really well. Takes care of it and provides a little bit of offense as well. She has the ability to change up the pace and is comfortable playing fast or slow. She’s really tough for being so small and very willing to take contact. I really like her form on her shot as well. Should have a big summer this year.
Grace Boffeli – 6’2 C – 2020 – North Scott
**13 points, 14 rebounds**
Boffeli played strong down low as she just gobbled up the boards on everything that came down her way. She is a very solid post player who has the ability to score the ball down low. I thought that she was a bit off today as she went 5-of-12 from the field but she impacted it so much via the boards. She has a lot of potential with the ability to be really good in this tournament as a dominant post.
Ella Skinner – 6′ F – 2020 – Bishop Heelan
**14 points**
Skinner was really paramount for Bishop Heelan as she provided much needed offense for them late in the game. She wasn’t hitting like she normally does, but came up in the second half big. She has the ability to drive pretty well and is a vocal leader on the court. Really liked her ability to control the game from the post position.
Janie Schoonhoven – 5’10 F – 2021 – Unity Christian
**12 points, 15 rebounds**
Schoonhoven was really good in this one. She is the lone starter in the lineup for Unity Christian that isn’t a senior. She definitely played like a senior tonight. Love her frame and it holds a ton of strength. Rebounds the ball well and can go and get the ones that don’t fall off to her. Tough player down low who likes to mix it up inside. I think that she is a legit post prospect who still has a ton of room to improve.
Ellie Foster – 5’10 G – 2020 – Dike-New Hartford
**20 points, 3 assists**
Foster had a great game in her last game of the season. I thought that she was able to really shoot the ball well and ran the offense well too. I really like her length and ability to force the subject on the offensive end. Really like her game as well as her ball skills to translate well to the next level. Foster is a player who should be talked about a little more around the state and I look for a big summer from her.
Abby Welter – 5’8 G – 2020 – Cascade
**17 points, 6 rebounds**
Saving her best performance of her career til now, Welter set a career high with 17 points. I thought she played a really good second half as she scored 12 points and kept her poise as Dike-New Hartford was making their run. I liked her aggression in the game and her ability to shoot the ball. She had eight of the 10 points for her team in the third quarter and played a huge role in extending the lead once DHN cut it down to three points.
