The Favorite
Janesville
Janesville is so experienced and while they didn’t end up getting to the State Championship bracket last year, they certainly should this year. While they do have three losses this year, including an odd loss to Dunkerton, I think they have too much firepower. They’ve beaten Ackley AGWSR already this season but will need to bring their A-game for another potential meeting. Senior Briana Baker-Bruce leads the team scoring 16.1 points a game. She is going to be a huge reason that Janesville advances to the State Championships.
The Sleepers
Ackley AGWSR
Despite having six losses on the season, this is a pretty solid team. They have lost two of their games to the first ranked 2A team in the state, Grundy Center. They have a few odd losses, including two losses to West Marshall but that’s a game that can go either way as they are a fringe top-10 3A team. Ackley AGWSR is led by senior Aubrie Fisher, a player who is shooting 35 percent from behind the arc. They could win this region if they put it together with how they play.
Central Elkader
At 11-8 on the season, Central Elkader is a team that really doesn’t score the ball all that well. They are averaging just 43.4 points per game, but have outscored their opponents by 5.6 points a game. They have actually only scored 810 points this year which is just the sixth best in the region. Hannah Erickson, a senior, is scoring the ball at an 18.5 point per game rate which is the best in the region. She is going to have to continue to do that for Central Elkader to have a shot at the Regional 3 title.
The Outside Shot
Springville
Springville is a very interesting team because they are young and they have nothing to lose. They shoot the ball at a pretty high rate as they have attempted 1,044 shots this year which is the most in their region. There is an odd roster configuration as they have four seniors and five freshmen listed and that’s it. They start four seniors and a freshman. That freshman, Lauren Wilson, leads the team in scoring at 16.0 points a game. This is a team that is hungry and ready to play spoiler.
