The Favorite
Panorama
Panorama is a very good team who doesn’t play the best of schedules, but they win the games that they need to. They only have one loss this year and it was a good loss to a great Des Moines Christian team. They don’t score a ton of points, but they allow less than 30 points a game. This is a very good team who should easily make the tournament at Des Moines. Senior Bailey Beckman is leading Panorama with 20.4 points per game, which is the best in the region by 5.2 points.
The Sleepers
Dike-New Hartford
Sitting at 16-2, Dike-New Hartford is a team that has the potential to knock a really good team off. The only thing that I think could hurt them is that they only average 50.7 points a game against a pretty weak schedule for the most part. Only 86 3-pointers have connected for them this year and that could be trouble against a team like Panorama. Junior Ellie Foster is leading the squad scoring 15.2 points per game.
Van Meter
Van Meter has already taken a loss to Panorama this season and it really wasn’t that close of a game. They score 48.9 points a game and most of that has come off of the 3-point shot. Van Meter has made 133 deep shots this year, that is 32 higher than the next most in the region. This is a team that could play spoiler. Clair Lauterbach, a junior is leading the team scoring 14.8 points a game this season.
The Outside Shot
Southwest Valley
Southwest Valley is a school that gets off a ton of shots in each game. They have attempted 1,126 shots this season and are scoring 56.4 points a game. That is the top mark in the region. They are allowing over 46 points a game this year so I think a team like Panorama can score the ball well against them. Scoring 13.9 points a game, junior Jentry Schafer leads the team in scoring.
