We will cover who you should watch for, the teams that could come out of nowhere, and of course, the bracket buster candidate. We will also list five players from each class that you need to keep an eye on throughout the bracket as they can really change the game in a hurry. The complete Region 4 bracket is posted below.
The Teams
Waukon (15-3)
Monticello (11-6)
Assumption (10-9)
Camanche (10-10)
North Fayette Valley (10-10)
Tipton (9-9)
Oelwein (7-12)
Anamosa (6-11)
The Favorite
Waukon
Sitting at 15-3 on the year, Waukon looks like they are in full control over Region 4. They haven’t lost to anyone in the region and their three losses have been to very good teams. Waukon is a team that scores 51.2 points per game on the year but they don’t shoot the ball at a great percentage from behind the arc. Annika Headington, a sophomore, is leading the team scoring 11.3 points a game so far this season.
The Sleeper
Monticello
All of Monticello’s losses have been in close games and a lot of those close wins can be attributed to the fact that they rarely turn the ball over. They have the least amount of turnovers in the region and is something that they are able to hang their hat on. Because they don’t turn it over it allows them to get off more shots than the opponent. That is a recipe for success and a Waukon vs. Monticello matchup would be really good. Junior Jordan Kuper is averaging 12.8 points a game for Monticello.
The Outside Shot
Assumption
Despite being 10-9 this season, Assumption is outscoring their opponents by 7.8 points a game. When you win a game 76-6 and have two other wins over 42 points, that number will be elevated. With only three upperclassmen on the team, this is a team that is going to come in hungry for a shocker, and I think they could get it potentially. Senior Allie Timmons and sophomores Olivia Wardlow and Anna Wohlers are all averaging between 9.9 and 9.4 points a game this year for Assumption.
