We will cover who you should watch for, the teams that could come out of nowhere, and of course, the bracket buster candidate. We will also list five players from each class that you need to keep an eye on throughout the bracket as they can really change the game in a hurry. The complete Region 7 bracket is posted below.
The Teams
Marion (19-1)
Fairfield (13-6)
Clear Creek-Amana (10-7)
Washington (7-13)
Mount Pleasant (6-14)
Oskaloosa (2-18)
The Favorite
Marion
Scoring 65.5 points a game, Marion is the going away favorite to win the region and get to state. Their only loss came to Iowa City West. This season Marion is allowing less than 30 points a game and are outscoring their opponents by 36.2 points a game. They have made 172 3-pointers on the season and are shooting 46 percent from the field. Marion is leading the region in every single category. They are led by junior Kayba Laube who is averaging 17.3 points a game.
The Sleeper
Fairfield
This is the team with the best shot to knock off Marion. While they don’t put up gaudy numbers, the recipe is right for them to potentially throw in an upset. They are only scoring 47.7 points a game but they have made 103 3-pointers on the season. If their defense can hold up and they can make shots, they could scare Marion. Shaylin Drish, a junior, is leading Fairfield with 15.1 points a game.
The Outside Shot
Clear Creek-Amana
Clear Creek-Amana is scoring 50.5 points per game this season and they are shooting the ball at a 38.7 percent clip, the second best in the region. While they are scoring over 50 points a game, they are allowing just under 50 points a game. This is a team that when they get beat, they get beat bad. If they can keep it close with the top teams they have a shot to win. Karsyn Stratton is a senior who leads the region in scoring at 18.9 points a game.
