Continue ReadingThe Mid Columbia Conference (MCC) and Greater Spokane League (GSL) have the opportunity to square off in the District 8 playoffs for a chance to make it to regionals. Prep Girls Hoops has closely been watching the District playoffs between the 4A and 3A teams from the MCC and GSL teams. Bragging rights for the “Eastern Washington crown” are on the line in Districts and the intensity level always rises a little bit when Tri-Cities area teams play Spokane teams. Overall, the GSL is 8-4 versus the MCC, with some games to be played in the loser out bracket on Monday.
4A:
GSL record: 5-2
MCC record: 2-3
Champion: Lewis and Clark (GSL)
The GSL made up 3 of the final four teams and both of the final two teams with Lewis and Clark defeating Central Valley in the championship, behind 17 points from UNLV signee Jacinta Buckley. One important loser out game will be played on Monday between University (GSL) and Chiawana (MCC). That game will feature a solid amount of college prospects including 2020s Elizabeth Boni, Kinsley Barrington of U-High and 2021 Delaney Pink of Chiawana. The GSL will look to move to 6-2 vs. the MCC, while Chiawana is hoping to improve the MCC’s record to 3-3. More importantly, the winner will move onto regionals and the loser will be done for the year. Lewis and Clark and Central Valley are both ranked in the top 5 in 4A and are hopeful state title contenders.
3A:
GSL record: 3-2
MCC record: 2-3
Champion: Mt. Spokane (GSL)
Mt. Spokane of the GSL took home the District 8 title with a 46-45 win over the MCC’s Kamiakin. 2019 6’0 SF Oumou Toure scored 20 points for Kamiakin in the loss to Mt. Spokane. Both teams stormed their way passed teams from the opposite league, but Mt. Spokane came through with the crown for Eastern Washington in 2019. Kamiakin will play the winner of Kennewick (MCC) and North Central (GSL). Kennewick and North Central will play in a loser out game at 12pm on Monday, followed by another loser out game at 3pm versus Kamiakin. It will be the first time I have ever heard of a high school team playing two games in a single day. One of the three teams will move onto the regional round, with Kamiakin being the favorite to do so. It should also be noted the Mt. Spokane and Kamiakin are both ranked in the top three for 3A and legitimate state title contenders.
