Prep Girls Hoops was live and direct and came away impressed with some of the individual performers in this game. There was some solid talent on the floor and both teams were working to keep their season alive. Roosevelt would pull off the upset and knock off Peninsula by a final of 60-56! Here are some of the top performers from this afternoon’s matchup.
Top Guards:
2019 5’7 G Karmelah Dean (Roosevelt HS) is quick and crafty ball handler that plays low to the ground. She displayed an ability to attack off the top and skillfully finish with either hand. She has showed an improved outside jump shot over time and it was on display in this game! Her contributions kept Roosevelt neck and neck with Peninsula all game long before coming out on top. Dean was the game’s leading scorer at 28 points to go along with 4 steals. The unsigned senior guard has been a 4-year impact player at Roosevelt.
2021 5’5 G Piper Bauer (Peninsula HS) is small in stature, but she has some game! She handled the ball well versus Roosevelt’s pressure and does not make a whole lot of mistakes with the ball in her hands.
2021 5’8 Linsey Lorovich (Peninsula HS) was really solid for the Seahawks, scoring 10 by half time. She did a good job of attacking the basket and finding opportunities to push in transition. Her athleticism pops when she drives to the paint and hangs in the air to finish.
Top Wings:
2019 6’0 W Belle Frazier (Peninsula HS) was aggressive right from the start on the offensive side of the ball. She is a big, strong wing player that excels in the mid range and at the rim. She has enough handle to get by smaller primary defenders and then she uses her size to elevate over them for the short or mid range pull up. She also does a very good job at drawing fouls in the paint by simply going up strong and absorbing contact.
Top bigs:
2021 6’2 Katie Thiers (Roosevelt HS) is a a strong interior post player that operates best inside the paint. Defensively, she is a very good help defender and impacts the game as a shot blocker. On the offensive side of the ball, she can finish with either hand and is a threat for put backs. Peninsula played off of multiple Roosevelt perimeter players and triple teamed her and she still found a way to be productive! Katie finished the game with 14 points and 15 rebounds.
