Given that club teams have been blowing up social media recruiting and holding tryouts, I would encourage keeping an eye out for members of this short list of 2022 standouts from the 3A and 4A state tournaments. Of note, all-league teams have yet not been released for all schools.
Brynn McCormick, 5’5″, PG, Scott Community – A Great West Activities Conference honorable mention selection, McCormick is a scorer. A perimeter threat she uses a variety of moves to get to the basket off the drive from either side. Strong with the ball, she finishes in traffic, can take it end-to-end with speed, and uses good vision to share off the break or drive. She also shows good defensive quickness and boxing out ability.
Kieryn Ontjes, 5’6″, PG, Nickerson – A Central Kansas League honorable mention selection, Ontjes’ three-point shooting makes her swift drives to the basket that much more effective. She knocks down the 8′ pull-up jumper as effectively as finishing around the basket. Possessing solid ball handling ability to attack back court pressure she also elevates well on her jumpers. On the other end she boxes and works off-the-ball well. Her lengthy build makes all of her abilities that much more effective.
Harper Schreiner, 5’4″, PG, Eudora – Schreiner has good speed with the ball and vision in transition. She can get into the lane quickly on drives and dishes well on the interior. Athletic around the basket with a good floater, with experience I anticipate improvement with her half-court passing and ball-handling. The bulk of her turnovers occurred getting the ball to teammates on the perimeter.
Brooklyn Ptacek, 5’11”, F, Eureka – What stood out about Ptacek was her defensive assignments. Because of her length and quickness she commonly drew opposing guards and wings to defend and did so effectively.
Jade Fouts, 5’9″, PF, Columbus – Fouts possesses a solid base set of skills. Her effectiveness on the offensive end will improve when her physicality increases to what she showed on defense.
