Evers single possession matters in the basketball game. In this first ever match up in the year 2019, Lawton Eisenhower also known as Lawton Ike against the El Reno Lady Indians in the state tournament semi-final game.
Lawton Eisenhower (Ike) Lady Eagles came out hard in the first quarter to begin the first lead of 3 points, at the end of the first quarter against the El Reno Lady Indians. El Reno tried to battle back in the first half but could not buy a bucket and one of their leading scores, freshman guard Ashley Evans-Thompson, was in foul trouble.
It was tough to keep the Lady Eagles from extending their lead with having sharpshooters like Ginger Reece! Lawton Ike was able to extend their lead even further in the first half to have the Lady Indians down by 7 points.
Great defense from El Reno to begin the second half, especially #10 junior guard Kayla Jones, forced many turnovers that the Lady Indians capitalized on which allowed El Reno to close their losing gap to only 3 points to end the third quarter! To begin the 4th quarter it was tough for both teams to pull away from one another due to El Reno finding their touch around the goal.
As the teams continued to trade baskets, time continued to diminish. Under a minute, the Lady Indians began to foul to make the game a free throw shootout, in which Lawton Ike missed free throws in the second half.
Less than 3 seconds left on the clock, a violation against the Lady Eagles at the charity stripe allowed El Reno to take the ball out under the opponents goal. Awesome play by the El Reno coach and great team execution on screens, allowed for the long pass to Merzedes Macias with two dribbles and a wide open pull up 3-pointer right before the buzzer, to win the game!!
