Years, even decades later, people still talk about them and their skills and achievements. Midland Dow has 2 senior basketball players that have come together to reach legend status at the school and in the state. Molly Davis and Maize Taylor have teamed up to make a legendary backcourt that will be remembered forevor.
Davis dominated the competition and inserted herself in the Miss Basketball conversation this season. Davis has averaged 18.2ppg this which is tops on the Midland Dow team. She also leads the team in free throw percentage (73%), 2 point field goal percentage (65%), and minutes played. Davis is second on the team in 3 point shooting percentage (42%) and assists per game (3.5). She will be playing at Central Michigan next year.
Taylor wasn’t just a Robin to Davis being Batman. She was a superhero in her own right. Taylor averaged 14.2 ppg which was second on the Midland Dow team. She was also second in 2 point field goal percentage (51%) and minutes played. Taylor led the team in 3 point shooting percentage, hitting them at a 46% rate. She will be playing at Northwood next season.
Molly Davis and Maize Taylor have led Midland Dow to a 19-1 record so far this season. This is the schools best record in 6 years. They are a consensus top 5 team in Division 1 and are a legitimate state title contender. Davis and Taylor have already helped their squad claim an SVL Division Championship and an SVL Crossover Championship. They are looking to add on their resume in the state playoffs starting on Monday.
“I am lucky to have had Molly and Maizie starting both for the last 4 seasons. Having one high level PG is a luxury most teams never have, and we get two. It works out very well for us because they both can handle the ball, both can get to the rim off the dribble, both shoot a very high percentage from 3, both draw attention to open up shots for teammates, and both are great defenders. If Molly was 2 inches taller she would be playing in the Big 10. If Maizie didn’t hurt her knee last year she would be playing at Mid Major D1. I truly believe I have the best back court in the state. They make my job so much easier with the decision making and high basketball IQ’s. I give them complete freedom to make decisions on the court because I have the utmost confidence in their abilities.” – Coach Kyle Theisen.
