After a slow start in the game, Minster controlled the rest of the game, and doubled up Ottoville with points in the paint, rolling to a 53-37 victory and capturing their second consecutive state championship.
Minster outscored the Green 28-14 in the paint, as Xavier signee Courtney Prenger put up 16 points to control the inside for the Wildcats.
Ottoville came out and controlled the first period, jumping in front by six in the opening eight minutes, but Minster settled down and began to take control by outscoring Ottoville 33-13 in the second and third periods to take over the game.
Underrated Wildcat: Demaris Wolf, 5-10 Sr., Minster- not only did senior Demaris Wolf have a big game in the regionals, she does more than score points. She led the team in six assists and was second on the team with five rebounds. She is always working harder than her opponent, and is crucial in their offense by doing the little things for the Wildcats.
Stock Risers: Nicole Knippen, 5-7 Soph., Ottoville- this sophomore plays bigger than a sophomore. She not only can score, but she has a solid rebounding game including her ability to grab the offensive rebound. She played a solid game in the finals, aggressive and athletic. Getting better every night, and will be one of the key players among the group who returns next season, Her stock went up with a solid final four.
Floor general: Ivy Wolf, 5-8 Soph., Minster- how much does she mean to this team? While she only scored nine points, everyone was talking about her overall game. Wolf does everything to be a solid leader, by either scoring from the perimeter, a good midrange shot, and active hands on defense which causes opposing guards fits. Great passer.
Player of the Game: Janae Hoying, 5-7 Soph., Minster- the other half of the dynamic guard combo for the Wildcats had the game of the day. She stepped up her game to a different level in the state championship game. Janae hit three shots from beyond the arc, led everyone with 19 points and swiped four steals.
Her last game in Green: Kasey Knippen, 5-7 Senior- not including all-star games, she played her final game in an Ottoville uniform and she proved why she is going to the next level. Outstanding guard with the ability to score from the inside or out. Not afraid to launch a three and a solid rebounder. She is headed to Urbana University.
This rivalry is amazing. Both teams do respect each other and it was no shocker that they met in the state finals. It is the second year in a row that is has happened.
