Piedmont finished their regular season with a record of 24 wins and only 4 losses. Each of their 4 losses only came from 6A opponents in which 2 of those opponents made it to the state tournament as well as one made it to the state finals. Along with losses to only tough opponents, Piedmonts win margin has been high.
Their last game of the regular season end with a loss but Piedmont decided to make a statement for playoffs! Out of 5 games in post season play, the Lady Cats have swept teams leaving no questions who is taking a “W” at the end of the buzzer. Piedmont has only had 2 games in post-season play where they did not win by more than 10 points. A huge statement win in the semi-final state tournament game by 20 points! The Lady Cats statement and message is loud and clear, Piedmont is in the building and ready to play!
All state-semi finals game gave us some nail bitting on possessions and their next opponent won on a buzzer beater! Piedmont is the exception, with a 20 point sweep over their opponent, Pryor Lady Tigers. Pryor started the game out hot with outside shots from Rhett Looney and finishes by M’Kayla Hillman with many passes coming from Hollie Wood. Heading to the end of the 1st half, Pryor began to have a tough time making shots majority of the game. The Lady Tigers had great inside play from M’Kayla Hillman and Rylie Looney with awesome moves and countermoves to the basket from high post to low post, but Pryor needed some help from outside play.
Meanwhile, Piedmont continued to strive in the game, mainly with great defense that led to easier offensive opportunities. Regan Crawford connected many of her 3 point shots to score six 3-pointers in the semi-final game in which she hit 2 of them back-to-back in the second half which started a huge run for Lady Cats to soar off and never looked back to win the game. Piedmont has so many factors to their team with a person who handles the ball very well and always makes the right decision with the ball and on the ball from Delaine Crawford while Piedmont utilizes Tyeshia Anderson as a defensive threat that covers all the bases on the defense end and is bound to have some steals every game without even reaching for the ball.
Aside from the defensive presence, Piedmont began to get many shots in transition or scored quickly in a half court set from multiple levels on the court, especially with inside finishes from Maci Attalla. The game score deficit began to increase in the favor of the Lady Cats to extend their lead as the time ticked down. Great defense, moving ball and shared opportunities, Piedmont pulled away to make a statement win by 20 points to advance to the 5A state championship game against El Reno.
