One of several key youngsters who helped Topeka advance all the way to the Kansas 6A state championships, Thomas is a 5’6 guard who says she takes pride in being an all-around player.
“Whether its offense or defense, I look to make an impact on the game,” she says.
A freshman who earned a starting role this season for Topeka, Thomas averaged 7.6 points, 2.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists and 1.9 steals per game.
“Being a freshmen and earning a starting spot on varsity was a goal of mine,” she says. “I feel like I got stronger, smarter and more confident as the season went on. I really enjoyed playing with my teammates. We battled all season long to prove ourselves. We demanded their attention.
“Along the way we won a league championship, were Sub State Champions and finished second in Kansas 6A State Runner Up. Our team had a unique bond. I love my teammates.”
Thomas says she has been working on her all-around game, including ball handling, shooting, footwork, defensive positioning, and various moves to get to the basket.
She says her family has had the biggest impact on her basketball career to date as her dad has coached since she began playing and says she grew up watching her older brother Ky Thomas play.
“My younger brothers play basketball and my moms dedication and support has all helped me become the player I am,” she says. “We work out together in the gym and watching film is very helpful.
“I have always watched my brother play basketball growing up and he has been very successful during his high school career and I feel like there’s a lot I can learn from him still. I also love to watch different highlights and film of different games because I know I can use any little thing from that film to add to my game.”
