It is an event that brings most of the top teams in Indiana under one roof to kick off the AAU season. A full day of action from 9:30-6:50 gave us some good performances. The guard play really caught my eye today and in this tournament there are a lot of good small college guard options. In fact, there are guards for almost every level of college basketball. I take a look at the three that stood out the most on the day. Here is our breakdown from Saturday.
Maya Chandler impressed with poise (IN)
While not putting up the gaudy stats that others did on Saturday, I came away impressed with Chandler’s ability to handle pressure. She was much more active than I remember during the school season and looked a touch quicker with the ball. She’s always been a guard who plays with a high IQ and is someone that just processes the game a little bit quicker than most. Now, the offense is starting to come along a little bit more and while she is able to still hit her teammates, she is looking to score just a little bit more. Running with Indiana Elite Thunder, Chandler is going to have a vast amount of opportunities to score the ball but also rack up a ton of assists.
Hope Sivori is playing at a high level (KY)
Sivori just wrapped up her high school season on Wednesday, but now Sivori is running with the Nike Lady Gym Rats Silver team and has looked really good so far this weekend. I thought that she shot the ball really well in the final game of the day on Saturday, but every other time I glanced over at her court it seemed like she was making a shot. Really like her control with the ball and ability to attack the defense. She likes to play at a quick pace but also has the ability to slow the game down and create offense. A really solid shooter, Sivori scored 18 points in the final game against Sky Digg Flight – Sullivan.
Shae Littleford once again played well (IL)
Having heard a lot about Littleford during the high school season, I was excited to get out and see her this weekend. She has done nothing but impress as she has been one of the key cogs for Indiana Elite WBB. Littleford is a quick guard who has been getting to the rim at a very high level this weekend. She sees the floor really well and has the ability to quickly get to the rim or force someone into fouling her. She’s pretty strong as well on the boards for a point guard, although that might be something a little overlooked in her game right now. Really liked her overall ability in the first two days as a floor general for this team.
