Most of the best talent in the state was on display and I caught most of the 2020, 2021, and 2022 teams as well as a few 2023 players. In each class I will be highlighting the top players that I saw. You can see my 2022/2023 evaluations below.
Teresa Maggio – 5’5 PG – 2022 – Lafayette Jefferson – Nike Lady Gym Rats Gold (Shelt)
This weekend I wanted to see Maggio play better than what I had seen during the high school game that I saw. I saw this team play in three different games this weekend and I thought that she played pretty solid throughout. She has a relatively thin frame but is pretty skilled with the ball allowing her to maneuver through the defense. She sees the floor pretty well and can set up the offense well. Right now, her best asset is probably her shooting ability in rhythm and I would love to see her become a better decision maker to help take some pressure off of her scoring ability.
Tressa Senesac – 5’4 PG – 2022 – Benton Central – Grand Park Premier 2022
Senesac was part of the reason that Benton Central made it all the way to the State Championship. She’s a very thin guard but has a very solid basketball IQ and when I saw her this weekend, she was making a ton of plays. Senesac isn’t a flashy player, but just so solid with the ball in her hands. Don’t have a ton of shooting ability right now but she does have a good ability to finish at the rim in transition.
Haley Godwin – 5’10 PF – 2022 – Danville – IN Showcase (Kirby)
During high school I didn’t think that Godwin played as much as she should have, but she is still a bit raw. I do like her size and length combined with her ability to play on the perimeter in stretches. Once Godwin gets the ball on the inside with time to make a move she is pretty solid when under control. Played with a huge motor and was getting on the floor for those 50-50 balls all day long. I think there is a bit of potential here with how she plays once she gets a little bit more comfortable.
Ashlynn Shade – 5’8 PG – 2023 – Noblesville – IGB (Morse Gold)
Obviously this was someone I had not seen prior to this weekend, but Shade was very impressive. She is very skilled for her age and can already score in a ton of different ways. She handles the ball pretty well and can rip off quite a few shots in a row. Shade is very quick twitch guard who is just as good at passing the ball as she is scoring it. I think that she is going to be a pain in the side of high schools for the next four years if she can improve her quickness and shooting ability while with the ball.
Karsyn Norman – 5’5 PG – 2023 – Bedford North Lawrence – Indiana Showcase (Johnson)
Norman was really impressive to me in the game that I watched her play. She was very solid with the ball and I figured that she was a freshman or sophomore that I hadn’t seen before due to there not being a roster for the team. I was wrong because she hasn’t even gotten to high school yet and her feel for the game was already very high. I really thought that she was strong with the ball despite her being just 5’5. She is quick and decisive with her passing ability and has a really solid flow to her game. She’s going to be the leader of a really solid BNL team in the next few years.
