The Cavaliers came in as winners of 6 out the last 7 State Championships, winning 5 in a row. They were supposed to be the Bulls of the 90’s or the Celtics of the 60’s. However, Lennox wasn’t going for it. The Orioles started the game off with a 3 and St. Thomas More would only have 3 points in the 3rdquarter. I looked up at the scoreboard and it read 33-3, 3rd quarter with 3:33 left. No lie!
The lone bright spot for STM was sophomore guard Haleigh Timmer. She never let up and played hard the entire game. I’ve seen her go off for 30, but not tonight. Rianna Fillippi was in passing lanes like she was a corvette weaving through traffic. Riley Peters and Issy Ihnen were money from downtown. Even when Lennox looked like the offense might get stagnant, STM didn’t capitalize. All in all Lennox buried STM 49-27 and it could have been worst. The Orioles move on to play West Central in the semis.
West Central was in a dog fight with Mt. Vernon/Plankinton. Reserved player and freshmen Josslin Jardin had a breakout game with 18 points. The Trojans will need to regroup to get ready for a big time matchup with Lennox. West Central beat them 52-50 in OT on February 7th.
