Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several players who raised their profile in the state championships in Wichita.
Eylia Bruce, 6’0, G, 2020, Olathe North
The junior standout continues to impress as a versatile two-way guard with the ability to take over games. She can score from deep, handle the ball well and is great at putting her head down and forcing her way to the basket. Bruce plays a great mobile game in transition and moves off the ball well and comes of screens to the wing and looks to pass inside.
10-Kenja Green, 5’10, G, 2019, Olathe North
One of the smoothest players on the floor in Class 6A. Green is a confident player with a solid frame. She has a soft touch to her shot and seeks out open looks from behind the line and mid-range area. She is also an active defender. She moves well on the ball and can stay in front of her opponent if they take the ball to the hole.
1-Katie Horyna, 5’9, G, 2020, Liberal
A solid scorer who is good after the catch and can create her own basket. The leading scorer on her team throughout the regular season, Horyna averaged 15.3 points per game. She can also rebound well and is great at finding players on the block or behind the line for a 3-point play.
3-Hope Watts, 5’4, G, 2019, Olathe North
Watts is an intelligent player with the ball. She has good handles and can weave in and out and get her teammates the ball. She is also a good defender along the perimeter and gets her hands on a lot of passes.
