Here, Prep Hoops takes a look at several sophomores who raised their profile in the state championships in Wichita.
11-Kylie Dunn, 5’8, G, 2021, Shawnee Mission NW
Dunn is a strong and physical two-way player who earns her stripes by staying active and on the move. She moves well off the ball and sets screens and looks to cut and run the baseline. She can handle the ball when she needs to and can help break a press and push the ball ahead. She also can get hot from behind the 3-point line as she can find her shot when she has the ball.
25-Ja’Neysha Hendricks, 5’6, G, 2021, Topeka
A hard-nosed defender with great speed and good handles. She has a nice euro step and a good feel for transition play. She uses her shoulders to feel for an opening and she can score off-balance and falling into a crowd. She’s also an aggressive defender who looks for steals and can get a hand on shots.
30-Holly McCormick, 5’7, G/F, 2021, Olathe Northwest
The first player off the bench for Olathe Northwest who brings toughness, ball security and intensity to the floor. She is an off ball player who can score, pass and get back on defense. She runs the floor well and plays physical for her size.
5-Lillian Smith, 5’0, G 2021, Topeka
A feisty defender and a quick thinker on the move. Smith doesn’t have the height of other guards but she can shoot and get on the board when she needs to and is comfortable putting her head down and scoring.
